Who can take an Anglia Exam?
Anyone who wants to learn English can take an Anglia Exam. There is no age limit for candidates. You can enter at the level of study your teacher considers appropriate.
When can I take an Anglia Exam?

How can progress be made?
In order to achieve full proficiency, candidates are encouraged to work through each level at their own pace.
How many hours of study must I do to pass my exams?
There are no minimum required hours of study to take an Anglia Exam. In order to achieve best results, the table below gives a guideline of recommended hours for each level, based on the Common European Framework. These hours may vary depending on your every day contact with English.
What can I do with my Anglia Exam?
Students study to gain an Anglia qualification for many reasons. Some universities will accept Anglia Proficiency if you want to study in the UK. Employers often like to see that a person has successfully studied a course in English. Others will take an exam just because they enjoy studying, and want to improve their English.
How are the exams marked?
Once you have taken your exam, it will be sent back to England, where it will be marked by a team of experienced examiners.
What can I take in to the exam with me?
For First Step, all you need are a set of coloured pencils - ask your teacher if they will be supplied. For all other levels, answers must be written in blue or black pen. Correction fluid is allowed. You may not take into the examination a dictionary, course notes, calculator or any other materials.
What if I missed part of the exam?
In order to be awarded a grade, candidates must attempt ALL components of the exam. If not all components are attempted, the candidate will normally be referred. Under certain special circumstances, a candidate will be awarded a grade even if they have not completed all components. For further information, you need to speak to your teacher.
I have a physical/learning difficulty. Can I still take an exam?
Yes. Anglia Examinations Syndicate encourages everyone who wants to take an Anglia Exam to take one. If you feel you need have special circumstances which need consideration, then discuss these with your teacher in confidence.
I am not happy with my result. Can I appeal?
Yes. If you are not happy with your result, you can ask to have the mark re-checked, you can ask to have your papers re-marked, or you can request a copy of your examination scripts. There are charges for all of these services. If you wish to appeal, then your teacher needs to do so on your behalf.
How long is my result valid for?
Your result is valid for the rest of your life. However, as with all qualifications, the longer ago you took it, the greater chance there is that an employer or institution will ask you to reconfirm you skills to their satisfaction.
What is a CITE test?
CITE is designed to give competent teachers of any subject, who may or may not have any other English teaching qualifications, a chance to obtain international recognition for their language skills, knowledge and experience. For further information, click here.
What are the age limits?
There is no age limit for candidates. Students will enter at the level of study the teacher considers appropriate. There is an Anglia Placement Test to help determine which level of examination is most appropriate. (See the Introduction section for the answer sheet.)
How soon will the results be known?
The results are sent around six weeks after the end of the examination. The Certificates bearing the candidate's name and result will follow shortly afterwards. Within each level one of four grades is awarded:
